Virtual Young Friends Retreat – Embodying Spirit: Senses, Relationships and Sexuality

May 8 – Embodying Spirit: Senses, Relationships and Sexuality

A One-day Young Adult Friends Retreat

On Saturday, May 8, 2021, all Young Adult Friends (YAFs aged 18 to 35ish) are welcome to join this relaxed, one-day event of attending to and nourishing our senses, bodies, spirituality and relationships.

Schedule & Events (all in Eastern Time)

Friends are invited to attend events as they are able. Note, however, that we won’t be on Zoom for most of the 11 – 12:30 block. **We ask attenders to join the Worship Sharing in a timely manner out of respect for the creating and maintaining of a safe container for potentially difficult sharings.**

Pastoral Care & Safety

Our goal is to create a safe container together and to offer a joyful, enriching experience for all within that lovingly held container. We will have Friends (both younger and older) present who are charged with the role of holding this safe and sacred space in Love and grounding it in Spirit.

Sexuality and gender can be difficult topics, as they are so core to our being and can touch on oppressions and common traumas for many of us. To manage possible harm, we will set up some boundaries for our Worship Sharing that will be discussed and added to, as needed, on the day. These boundaries will include not sharing details of trauma nor of sexual acts and being mindful of topics discussed, providing content warnings as appropriate.

We do this with a mind towards building resilience in the Quaker community around speaking about sex and relationships as Friends and also with an awareness of where we are at in this young process (at least among Canadian Friends). We hope to be able to integrate conversations about sexuality and relationships as a healthy part of our faith.

We will have a pastoral care team available made of queer, trans, straight, younger, and older Friends. Anyone who feels overwhelmed, like they need a listening ear, or a bit of support is encouraged to reach out to the pastoral care team during or after the retreat.
